When someone asks what do you do ? I say that I am an engineer.
But why only one word. I am more than that.
What I mean is that- as a kid I wanted to sell ice creams. Then I discovered the concept of money and wanted to work in a bank, I thought they were richest. Waited for my Hogwarts letter to as a preteen. Artist and astronaut is a fixed goal for everyone I know.So, it’s obvious. I read about kings and queens in stories and built my own kingdom in 64 squares through chess. I loved video games and eventually fell in love with computers. Then I wanted to become a storyteller and cameras looked cool. Soon after that came guitar and music. Later I was hurt as a young adult and I coped through learning martial arts. To understand emotions I did an entire degree of counseling psychology hoping that now I am full proofed from lies and manipulation. (Spoiler alert- it doesn’t work that way)
Of course I run my own tech company. I still do art and sell Pattachitra (Odia traditional art ) sometimes. I enjoy the learning process of writing from the best SM and SN. The little downside is – I have to count calories before treating myself an ice cream and have little time to spend with my guitar. It is ok I guess.
Coming back to what I do….
I am growing vegetables in my backyard and terrace. It took me 6 months of hard-work to finally grow potatoes, every time it got rotten because sometimes I put more water , more manure or it dried up due to less water. That is my biggest achievement for now. In-front of those 7 potatoes all other things began to feel like a side quest. Growing my own food is a main quest for now. Hopefully someday I will be able to proudly say that I am a farmer.
So, next time if someone has enough time and genuine curiosity while asking -“What do you do” Maybe I will be honest. That I am still figuring it out…..
